As the country capital, Athens is densely populated by 4 million people.听Many of the city鈥檚 notable sites can be found in the city center, where AUEB is also conveniently located.听In addition to the Acropolis,听which is visible from the University,听the city features many of the country鈥檚 important museums听in direct vicinity:听The听National Archaeological Museum, the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art听and the Byzantine Museum听provide only a few of the possibilities for cultural experiences. Take a simple walk in downtown Athens and the past comes to life before your own eyes.听
Athens is听also听full of exciting, fun and relaxing venues.听The听Psirri听region, with its听inner-city authenticity.听The adjacent听Monastiraki听flea market, with its听antique stores.听Just a few听steps听further听stands听Ermou听Street, the busiest shopping street of the city. North of听Syntagma Square stands听Kolonaki, the ever-trendy aristocratic neighborhood where听visitors听shop and have coffee.听Designer boutiques and foreign houses to home-grown wonders, pedestrians鈥 streets and cafes听are scattered all along听Kolonaki.听
During the听summer听time听Athens comes alive with musical and theatrical events.听Indoor and outdoor theatres听provide numerous opportunities to catch听a听memorable听performance.听Outdoor cinemas and elegant roof-terrace restaurants are also a听summer night must in Athens.听Naturally, one should not forget the Greek islands, many of which are听but听a few hours away by boat and brimming with visitors from all over the world听during summer.听
