AUEB鈥檚 Department of Informatics co-organizes the 1st Athens Natural Language Processing Summer School (September 18-25, 2019)

The Department of Informatics of the 黑料科 of Economics and Business (AUEB) co-organizes the , which will take place at the campus of NCSR 鈥淒emokritos鈥 from September 18 to 25, 2019. Natural Language Processing is a subfield of Artificial Intelligence that develops algorithms and computational models that allow computers to 鈥渦nderstand鈥 and generate natural language text and/or spoken language. Examples of applications developed by the of AUEB鈥檚 Department of Informatics include information extraction from legal and biomedical documents, opinion mining from product reviews, systems that answer questions by searching for answers in scientific journals etc.
The instructors of the Summer School are distinguished Natural Language Processing from universities, research centers, and information technology companies around the world. The School will be attended by approximately 100 participants, selected from approximately 260 who applied to participate. The central lectures of the Summer School will be video-recorded and will be made freely available after the completion of the School.
The Summer School is co-organized by the Department of Informatics of AUEB, the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR 鈥淒emokritos鈥, the Institute for Language and Speech Processing of the Research Center 鈥淎thena鈥, and the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences of Heriot-Watt University. The Scientific Committee of the School comprises Ion Androutsopoulos (Associate Professor, AUEB), Andreas Vlachos (Senior Lecturer, University of Cambridge), Anastasia Krithara (Associate Researcher, NCSR 鈥淒emokritos鈥), Yannis Konstas (Lecturer, Heriot-Watt), Haris Papageorgiou (Research Director, RC 鈥淎thena鈥) and Georgios Petasis (Researcher, NCSR 鈥淒emokritos鈥). Dr. Vlachos and Dr. Konstas are also alumni of AUEB鈥檚 Department of Informatics. The Summer School is organized in cooperation with .
